Congratulations to Dominik Hlauschek on His First Full Publication in ESMO Open!
13.06.2025A proud moment for the ABCSG statistics team: our colleague Dominik Hlauschek has just published his first full paper in ESMO Open — a key step in his scientific career. Congratulations – and many thanks to Christian Fesl for his leadership and to the whole statistics team for their support!
This paper critically examines the new IBCFS endpoint introduced in 2021 and its implications for statistical analyses of adjuvant breast cancer trials.
Drawing on recent insights from the statistical community and real-world data from four large ABCSG studies, the paper illustrates how different approaches to handling second primary non-breast cancers (SPNBCs) result in different clinical interpretations, emphasizing that even standardized endpoints require careful handling.
This publication reflects ABCSG’s continued commitment not only to designing and conducting high-quality clinical trials, but also to critically re-evaluating statistical methodology and cancer guidelines in oncology research.
Future guidelines must take such statistical nuances into account – otherwise, they risk falling short of true standardization.
