This marks the launch of the new national registry study documenting the real-world treatment landscape for patients with localized rectal cancer in Austria.

The ABCSG R07 / Rectal Cancer Registry is a multicenter, retrospective and prospective non-interventional study (NIS). Its aim is to establish a nationwide registry assessing the therapeutic management of patients with locally advanced, non-metastatic adenocarcinoma of the rectum.

The study focuses, on the one hand, on patients with microsatellite-stable disease (pMMR/MSS) who have received total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT). Although TNT represents a key treatment approach for locally advanced or distal rectal cancer, the protocols used in Austria vary between centers – for example, with regard to the sequencing of chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as the treatment regimens used.

In addition, patients with dMMR/MSI-H disease will be included. In this patient population, the study aims to document the clinical transition from conventional treatment approaches such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery towards immunotherapy, which is on the verge of becoming the new standard of care for this patient group.

A total of 600 patients are planned to be enrolled across Austria.
