    Further optimizing breast cancer therapy
    The neoadjuvant therapy protocol ABCSG-24 was activated in Austria in mid-2004. The clinical objective of this study was to investigate to what extent rates of complete pathologic remission could be improved (i.e., breast cancer cells eliminated completely, as seen in patients’ dissected material).

    Today in Berlin, Prof. Günther Steger, MD, presented impressive trial results from ABCSG-24.

    ABCSG treatment makes history:

    New England Journal of Medicine
    ABCSG-12 trial results published in the New England Journal of Medicine

    ABCSG Trial 12 demonstrated that bisphosphonate treatment added to standard therapy reduces the risk of recurrence by 36% in premenopausal women with hormone receptor-sensitive breast cancer as compared to patients receiving conventional antihormonal treatment. The renowned New England Journal of Medicine published this result in its current issue – an honor rarely bestowed on researchers in Austria.

  • September 23, 2008 Breast cancer: Risk of relapse can be reduced by 36 percent Folder

    Recently, the chances of healing breast cancer patients have drastically improved: Following succesful surgery, a novel treatment approach has the potential to reduce the risk of a recurrent cancer by 36 percent. In this respect, the ABCSG has issued a folder with the most up-to-date details. The folder can be ordered from www.abcsg.at and has been deposited at more than 100 of the Group's centers.
  • August 25, 2008 Results of ABCSG Trial Published in Lancet Oncology Lancet Oncology yesterday published the online version of a paper dealing with bone mineral density data from ABSCG Trial 12. The ABCSG is grateful to and congratulates all co-authors of this publication. The print version is to be released in September.

    Soon To Come in Austria
    ABCSG-30, BETH

    The ABCSG is the first institution in Europe to launch the new Bevacizumab and Trastuzumab Adjuvant Therapy (BETH) trial, ABCSG-30. A total of 16 centers will be taking part in this study protocol. The trial investigates the integration of the anti-vascular endothelial growth factor antibody bevacizumab into a trastuzumab treatment plan for early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer. Pre-study visits are currently well underway.

  • August 28, 2008 The Lancet Oncology published the substudy of the ABCSG-12 Concomitant zoledronic acid prevents bone loss in women with breast cancer during treatment with adjuvant endocrine therapy, and improves bone-mineral density after treatment, according to findings from a substudy of the Austrian Breast and Colorectal Cancer Study Group trial-12 (ABCSG-12), published early Online and in the September edition of The Lancet Oncology.
